About Mailing Lists
We are running Mailman software to manage electronic mail discussion lists. Mailman is free software that gives each mailing list a unique web page and allows users to subscribe, unsubscribe, and change their account options over the web. Even the list manager can administer his or her list entirely via the web. Mailman has most of the features that people want in a mailing list management system, including built-in archiving, spam filters, bounce detection, digest deliver, and so on.

Please send mail to mailman-owner@lists.mdibl.org if you have any questions about mailing lists at MDIBL.

Usage Guidelines
Here are some guidelines that will make everyone's mailing list experience more pleasant:
  • Make sure that the subject describes the actual message contents. Use "Subject: Agenda for Thursday Staff Meeting" instead of "Subject: Important Items".
  • Please do not use email attachments when posting to mailing lists. They create problems when archiving messages and take up too much disk space. See My Home Directory for information on how to upload large files to a publicly-accessible area.
  • Post messages as text rather than HTML. Not everyone uses HTML-enabled email clients.
  • Think about who is on the list and who might read the mailing list archives in the future. Note that some archives may be freely accessible to anyone via the internet
